How to Obtain a Tampa Florida Police Report

Traffic accidents are unexpected and can, unfortunately, cause immediate trauma, serious injuries and sometimes fatality. The main focus of Tampa law enforcement on the scene will be getting the appropriate medical attention for those in need, and then writing up the incident for the evidence record. You will generally receive the officer’s business card and case number, however, the full Police Report won’t be available for another 3-5 business days.

Your Police Report will likely contain the Officer’s notes and details as to the cause of the accident, the person’s name who was assigned blame, indications of injury, estimated damages, and a graphic or drawing of the collision (marked to show impact location and/or vehicle damage areas).

If you would like to discuss your accident and Police Report, please contact Darrigo, Diaz & Jimenez at (813) 774-3341 to schedule a free case evaluation with one of our Tampa personal injury attorneys.

Requesting a Copy of Your Tampa Police Report

Florida traffic crash records law Section 316.066 mandates that all accident Police Reports less than 60 days old MUST be accompanied by a Sworn Statement, a copy of your current photo identification and proof of exemption which allows you access.

Florida mandates that Police Reports are confidential documents for the first 60 days after the accident. As such, they are only available within the confidential timeframe to exempt parties; defined as involved parties, their representatives, attorneys and insurance carriers as well as qualified media members.

WARNING Any person, knowing that he or she is not entitled to obtain information made confidential by the above law, who obtains or attempts to obtain such information, is guilty of a felony of the third degree.

The Records Section of the Tampa Police Department has provided us with the following details to assist in the acquisition of your Tampa Police Accident Report. You will find specific instructions within the Online, In Person and By Mail sections. The cost for your Police Report is up to $2.00 per copy; $.15 per page for 1-sided pages and $.20 per page for 2-sided pages. Reports can be certified for $1.00. Third party (non-government) online delivery platforms will assign their own specific pricing.
