Look Before You Lock: New Car Seat Technology Hits the Market
Posted By Darrigo, Diaz & Jimenez
There is a new product on the market this summer that literally saves lives – kids’ lives! Walmart and Evenflo have partnered up on a new car seat that is designed to help parents avoid leaving their kids in hot cars. According to KidsAndCars.org, an average of 38 children die in hot cars each year from heat-related deaths after being trapped inside vehicles.
This summer, Evenflo announced the launching of a new car seat with special technology to alert parents when they accidentally leave their kids behind inside a looked car. The new SensorSafe technology consists of a wireless receiver that is plugged into car’s onboard diagnostic port. The receiver syncs with a chest clip that goes around the baby and when the car is turned off, a series of tones will play until the chest clip is unbuckled. The system also alerts drivers if the chest clip is unbuckled while the car is still in drive.
On a recent interview with the New York Post, Diana Marshall, Vice President for baby at Walmart said “There are millions of cars in our parking lots every day, and we put a challenge out to the industry… Evenflo stepped up with a first-of-its-kind product aimed at vehicular heat stroke.” Even though other companies’ products rely on Bluetooth or cellular technology, Evenflo SensorSafe car seat technology is the only alert system that’s been crash-tested and will be exclusive to Walmart.
The product sells for $149.88 and is only being sold online now; it is expected to be at Walmart stores by mid-August. Excellent innovation on behalf of Evenflo Company.
