Another Turn-Off for GM

Posted By Darrigo & Diaz

A new GM recall covers over 2 million possibly affected vehicles. The latest GM recall to shake the automotive giant encompasses six different models from three different automakers in addition to eight thousand vehicles that might have used the defective switch as a service replacement part.

Chevrolet’s Cobalt and HHR, Pontiac’s G5 and Solstice as well as Ion and Sky from Saturn are listed in the recall. The problem is caused by extra weight on the key chain, road conditions or some other jarring event possibly causing the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine. If the engine is off, the airbags might not deploy in case of a collision.

If your vehicle is among the recalled, GM recommends removing all items from the key ring, including the key fob. Before leaving the vehicle confirm it is in “park,” or in case of manual transmission put into reverse gear and set the parking brake, until the issue is resolved. GM will notify the owners via mail and the ignition switch will be replaced at a GM dealer at no cost. If you have any questions call the GM hotline at 1800-222-1020.
